On October 29, 2024, a meeting was held by the Commission for the Study of Space Monitoring of the Seismic Resistance of Reservoir Dams at the Institute of Mechanics and Seismic Stability of Structures named after M.T. Urazbaev of the Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences. This Commission was established following the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, dated October 11, 2024, No. 666, titled “On the Introduction of a System of Continuous Radar Space Monitoring for the Seismic Resistance of Reservoir Dams.”
The meeting was attended by the Vice-President of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Head of the Department of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and representatives of the Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Department of Safe and Efficient Use of Water Bodies of JSC "Uzbekgidroenergo", the Agency for Space Research and Technology of the Ministry of Digital Technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Andijan Institute of Agriculture and Agrotechnology, the Institute of Mechanics and Seismic Stability of Structures named after. M.T. Urazbaev of the Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences, Institute of Seismology named after G.O. Mavlonov of the Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences, Republican Center for Seismic Forecasting Monitoring of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Uzbekistan, National Research University "Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers".
The meeting was chaired by the chairman of the Commission, Vice-President of the Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences S. Mirzaev. Sh.M. Kadyrov, the Director of the Agency for Space Research and Technology under the Ministry of Digital Technologies, spoke at the meeting. He reported that the Agency, in collaboration with the Ministry of Water Resources, JSC "Uzbekgidroenergo," and the Academy of Sciences, has launched a system for permanent radar space monitoring of the seismic resistance of reservoir dams. He provided an overview of the information generated by this system and its analysis. The Commission has decided to assess the seismic conditions of three reservoirs situated in seismically hazardous areas of the republic, to evaluate the effectiveness of their operation, and to facilitate the implementation of the tasks outlined in Resolution No. 666 issued by the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
